Matters Arising:

A discussion took place regarding the examiners and their deportment and attitude to-wards candidates. In general the discussion was on a particular examiner and the fact that they appear to fall asleep during test. A further point that was raised was the time that is taken by an examiner on test and in particular the length of de-brief. Members of the association are to approach the DSA regarding this.

The Association has received a reply to the letter sent to the DSA re the use of video camera recording equipment during driving tests. They have confirmed that their policy on the matter is that they are not allowed. It was then explained why and who was responsible for the vehicle during driving tests and they stated that they were going to review their policy in the near future.

The examiners have asked that all instructors teach the pedestrian walkway outside the test centre as a give way, they are expecting all candidates to give way at the exit gate at the centre as well as the kerb side.

They further stated that when doing a left reverse on a wide road that they will allow pupils to continue moving even if there is on coming traffic and it is not likely to cause any danger.

All instructors are reminded that the “Show me tell me” questions are part of the criteria of teaching driving. More and more candidates are approaching the test vehicle and stating that “it’s only a minor” and that they are not worried and that they have not been told them.

The Left reverse is another problem that the examiners are encountering on a regular basis. They appreciate that the angle of the windscreens do not help, but they have asked that we try and move candidates off corners when examiners approach. Examiners will be asked to make it more obvious that it is a test.

Pupils must obey the 30mph limit within the roadworks at all times. The examiners will make it clear when it is in force to the candidate.
