General Industry news

This page is made up of a lot of references to stories, articles and links to other places and serves as a reference to stories that can affect us all.  If you are aware of an article that can or may affect all of us, and is not a locally resolvable issue, then please email me with some details (and a link if possible), I will post the article and credit you.

The DSA has issued an online consultation document detailing changes to test fees to be implemented in March. Click this link to jump directly to the consultation document.  Oh joy, bringing this good news to the customers.

Woman Fails Test For splashing pedestrian

A sobering thought considering the recent weather here in Scotland, but a woman in Manchester recently failed her driving test for splashing a Pedestrian by driving through a puddle. The story is covered in Driving Instructor (the publication of the DIA) newspaper in detail on page 3. Apparently the reason for the failure was that she had committed a Traffic Offence and that she should have exchanged details with the man she splashed. So, a warning in advance for those of us here in the damp north.

New bike Test put back

The new "improved" motorcycle test has been postponed for six months due to DSA operational difficulties.  There are quite a few articles covering the various issues and reasons for the postponement, so I wont go into them here.  If you want a full explanation ask Bruce and he will tell you.  Buy him a coffee and he will tell you without including the swear words !!!!

Tougher new penalties for drivers who kill

Motorists who cause fatal accidents whilst avoidably distracted at the wheel now face up to five years in prison. In addition drivers who are uninsured, unlicenced, or disqualified also face 5 year sentences if convited of killing by DANGEROUS driving and two year sentences if convicted of killing by careless driving.

Seat belt law penalties increase

A new publicity campaign is set to be unleased on the public advising on the dangers of not wearing a seat belt. This is tied in with an increase of the statutory fixed penalty for a seat belt offence to £60 (up from £30).
